Contains nexiumHow does Nexium work?Nexium works by blocking the reuptake of acid in the gut. It does this by preventing the reabsorption of acid in the gut. This is accomplished at the low pH at the beginning of taking the medicine. At higher concentrations the reabsorption of acid in the gut is decreased. This reduces the likelihood of the acid in the stomach coming in contact with blood and in the blood. This increased sensitivity to the drug can result in symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, flushing, stomach pain, abdominal pain, and loss of weight. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the generic versions of Nexium.
Nexium may lead to a condition called nephrotic syndrome. In this condition, the body becomes vulnerable to narrowed arteries and a buildup of salt and water in the body. This can lead to kidney failure, coma, and even death.

According to the FDA, these medicines “are indicated for the short-term relief of acute kidney injury,” meaning that they are not associated with acute kidney injury. In addition, the FDA advises that these medicines may be used in combination with other therapies to treat chronic kidney disease, and also to prevent osteoporosis.
